Trump: Und wenn sie nicht gestorben sind, dann staunen sie noch heute

[English version below] Sieht aus, als hätte man im Headquarter von Coronavirus Inc. einen ganz großen Coup an Land gezogen. Trump hat sich mit dem Coronavirus infiziert. Was mich daran am meisten erstaunt ist, wie sehr alle staunen. Ich meine, das war nicht nur als wahrscheinliche Möglichkeit in Betracht zu ziehen. Es war sonnenklar, dass Trump sich früher oder später infizieren würde – so fahrlässig, wie er sich verhielt. Und dass seine Veranstaltungen potenzielle Superspreader-Events sind, ist auch keine Überraschung.

Weil wir ja mittlerweile kapiert haben sollten, dass andere Menschen Trump sch**ßegal sind. Aber hey, jetzt sind alle wieder am Staunen. Mensch, was für ein verrücktes Jahr! 2020, die dystopischste aller Netflix-Serien! Wie wird wohl das Staffelfinale aussehen?! Ich kann es echt nicht mehr hören. Es klingt fast, als hätten die Leute Trump den Mythos von seiner Unbesiegbarkeit tatsächlich abgekauft. Naja, surprise, surprise, er ist ein Mensch aus Fleisch und Blut, auch noch Risikogruppe, und wenn wir Glück haben, tut das Virus der Menschheit einen ganz großen Gefallen. Ja, ich schreibe das auch nicht gerne. Ist aber so.

Und täglich grüßt das Trumpeltier

Trump ist wie ein Unfall, wo alle immerzu hinschauen müssen. Na, was hat er wohl heute wieder angestellt? Sein antisoziales Verhalten fasziniert, seine dreisten Lügen lassen uns erschaudern, seine Dummheit ist oft ziemlich lustig. Und währenddessen sehen wir zu, wie der mächtigste Mann der Welt eine Weltmacht zerbröselt.

Ungläubig blicken die Länder des Globalen Südens auf das reichste Land der Erde, das es weder gebacken bekommt, das Virus einzudämmen, noch seine Bürger*innen medizinisch zu versorgen. Viele Länder in Asien und Afrika sind nach ihren Erfahrungen mit SARS und Ebola gut aufgestellt und haben das Coronavirus binnen kurzer Zeit gut in den Griff bekommen. Dazu braucht es lediglich Vertrauen in die Wissenschaft, Gemeinsinn und den entschlossenen Willen zu handeln. All das fehlt Trump & Co.

Psychologisch unfit

Unzählige Bücher künden von Trumps Unfähigkeit für jegliches Amt – geschweige denn das des US-Präsidenten: zuletzt veröffentlichten sein Ex-Fixer Michael Cohen und seine Nichte Mary Trump. Uns ist mittlerweile klar, dass Trump null Wissen und null politische Erfahrung hat.

Seit 2015 warnen diverse US-amerikanische Psychiater*innen, dass Trump in seiner Fantasiewelt lebt und sein mentaler Zustand sich aktuell kontinuierlich verschlechtert.

Das Buch seiner Nichte habe ich gelesen – nicht nur, weil sie ihren Onkel aus nächster Nähe (oder was man bei den Trumps dafür hält) kennt, sondern auch, weil sie klinische Psychologin ist. Sie schreibt durchaus empathisch von seinem äußerst zerbrechlichen Ego, seiner Unsicherheit, seinem unendlichen Bedürfnis nach Anerkennung:

Ich habe kein Problem damit, Donald als Narzisst zu bezeichnen – er erfüllt alle neun Kriterien, die im Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) aufgeführt sind – aber dieses Etikett bringt uns nicht weiter.*

Mary Trump vermutet, dass Donalds emotionale Entwicklung aufgrund von Vernachlässigung etwa im Alter von drei Jahren stoppte. Mit dem Spitznamen „toddler in chief“, das Kleinkind als Chef, treffen seine Gegner*innen also instinktiv ins Schwarze.

Donald ist heute so, wie er im Alter von drei Jahren war: unfähig zu wachsen, zu lernen oder sich weiterzuentwickeln, unfähig, seine Emotionen zu regulieren, seine Reaktionen zu mäßigen oder Informationen aufzunehmen und zu verarbeiten.*

Wenn man ehrlich ist, ist nichts davon neu oder überraschend. Wir sehen doch dieses Verhalten jeden Tag im Fernsehen und auf Twitter. Das Buch ist lediglich eine weitere Bestätigung einer nahestehenden Person, dass Donald Trump unberechenbar und gefährlich ist. 208.000 US-Amerikaner*innen sind tot – reicht das nicht als Beweis? Und so fleht Mary Trump am Ende des Buches ihre Leser*innen fast schon an zu verhindern, dass ihr Onkel an der Macht bleibt. Das wäre das Ende der amerikanischen Demokratie, schreibt sie. Und würde weitere Menschenleben kosten.

In aller Öffentlichkeit bloßgestellt – na und?

Trumps geschäftlicher Erfolg ist lediglich eine selbst erschaffene Legende – stattdessen hat er das Familienbusiness heruntergewirtschaftet*, dabei mit Vorliebe öffentliche Gelder verwendet* und im Gegenzug so gut wie keine Steuern gezahlt. Er unterhielt geschäftliche Kontakte zur russischen Mafia – all das ist bekannt, die Informationen sind öffentlich verfügbar. Sie haben ihm bislang nicht geschadet – im Gegenteil. Wir kennen diesen Mechanismus von Berlusconi oder auch der AfD: Je ungezogener jemand auftritt und je dreister jemand Normen vor aller Augen verletzt, desto mehr Aufmerksamkeit bekommt die Person.

Dass Trump sich sexuellen Fehlverhaltens schuldig gemacht hat, offen rassistische Positionen vertritt, den Klimawandel leugnet und die Umwelt schädigt, wo er nur kann, und auch als Präsident in die eigene Tasche wirtschaftet – wir wissen das.

Trotzdem erscheint noch ein weiteres empörtes Buch und noch ein weiterer alarmierender Film, diesmal darüber, wie Trump die Pandemie befeuert hat:

Kurz zuvor kam dieser alarmierende Film heraus, in dem US-amerikanische Psychiater*innen Trumps Diagnosen rauf- und runterbeten. Ja, okay, aber was jetzt?

Ich will die Arbeit der Filmemacher*innen nicht schmälern. Es ist wichtig, alles zu dokumentieren, um Trump & Konsorten hoffentlich irgendwann zur Rechenschaft zu ziehen. Momentan nutzen diese Filme aber wenig.

Handeln statt Staunen

Irgendwie erinnert mich das Trump-Problem an den Klimawandel: Wir wissen sehr genau, was passiert. Wir haben weiß Gott kein Erkenntnisproblem.

Die Arktis schmilzt, Kalifornien und Australien verbrennen, der Meeresspiegel steigt. Auch da schauen wir fasziniert dem Horrorfilm zu und warten auf die nächste Staffel.

Wir sollten aufhören zu staunen und die Verantwortlichen zum Handeln zwingen. Jetzt!

Solange wünsche ich Donald Trump, dass er für seine 750 Dollar Steuern eine exzellente Behandlung auf Kosten der Steuerzahler*innen bekommt – und nicht auf die von ihm propagierte „Medizin“ zurückgreifen muss.

Trump: Stop being surprised – start acting

Looks like a big coup has been landed at the headquarters of Coronavirus Inc. Trump has been infected with the Coronavirus. What really surprises me about this is how surprised everyone is. I mean, this wasn’t just a probable outcome. It was certain to happen. Trump would get infected sooner or later – as negligent as he was behaving. And it’s also no surprise that his events are potential superspreading events.

Because by now we’ve realized that Trump doesn’t give a damn about anybody but Trump. But hey, everyone is totally surprised again. Man, what a crazy year! 2020, the most dystopian of all Netflix series! Can’t wait to see the season finale, harhar. I’m so sick of hearing this. It sounds as if people actually bought Trump’s myth of invincibility. Well, surprise, surprise, he’s a human being, even at a high risk, and if we’re lucky, the virus will do humanity a huge favor. Yes, I don’t like writing that either. But „it is what it is“.

Every day a disaster

Trump is like an accident, you can’t turn your gaze away. Well, let’s see what he came up with today? His antisocial behavior is fascinating, his brazen lies make us shiver, his stupidity is often quite funny. And meanwhile we watch the most powerful man in the world make a world power crumble.

Incredulously, the countries of the Global South are looking at the richest country on earth, which is neither able to contain the virus nor to provide medical care for its citizens. Many countries in Asia and Africa are well positioned after their experiences with SARS and Ebola and have managed to contain the corona virus within a short time. All that is needed is trust in science, a sense of community and the determination to act. Exactly what is missing from Trump & Co.

Psychologically unfit

Countless books tell of Trump’s inability to hold any office – let alone that of US president: the last books published were by his ex-fixer Michael Cohen and his niece Mary Trump. We have long come to understand that Trump has zero knowledge and zero political experience.

Since 2015 various US-American psychiatrists have been warning that Trump is delusional and that his mental state is deteriorating continuously.

I read his niece’s book – not only because she knows her uncle up close (or whatever the Trumps would consider close), but also because she is a clinical psychologist. She writes with empathy about his extremely fragile ego, his insecurity, his infinite need for recognition:

I have no problem calling Donald a narcissist—he meets all nine criteria as outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5)—but the label gets us only so far.*

Mary Trump suspects that Donald’s emotional development stopped at the age of three due to neglect. By nicknaming him „toddler in chief,“ his opponents instinctively hit the mark.

Donald today is much as he was at three years old: incapable of growing, learning, or evolving, unable to regulate his emotions, moderate his responses, or take in and synthesize information.*

To be honest, none of this is new or surprising. We see his behavior every day on television and Twitter. The book is just another confirmation from someone close to him that Donald Trump is unpredictable and dangerous. 208,000 Americans are dead – isn’t that proof enough? And so, at the end of the book, Mary Trump almost begs her readers to stop her uncle from remaining in power. That would be the end of American democracy, she writes. And it would cost more lives.

Exposed in public – so what?

Trump’s business success is merely a self-created legend – instead, he has run down the family business*, using public money*, and in return paying almost no taxes. He maintained business contacts with the Russian Mafia – all this is well-known, the information is publicly available. So far it has not harmed him – on the contrary. We know this mechanism from Berlusconi or the AfD: the more naughty someone appears and the more brazenly someone violates standards in front of everyone, the more attention the person gets.

We know that Trump is guilty of sexual misconduct, openly takes racist positions, denies climate change and damages the environment wherever he can, and also profits financially from the presidency. We know that.

Yet another outraged book and yet another alarming film is published, this time about how Trump fueled the pandemic:

Shortly before that, this alarming film was released, in which American psychiatrists* analyze Trump’s diagnoses extensively. Yeah, okay, but now what?

I don’t wish to belittle the work of the filmmakers. It’s important to document everything so that hopefully Trump and his cronies can be brought to justice one day. But at the moment these films are of little use.

Somehow the Trump problem reminds me of climate change: We know very well what is happening. God knows, we don’t have a problem with knowledge.

The Arctic is melting, California and Australia are burning, the sea levels are rising. Again, we are watching the horror movie with fascination and can’t wait for the next season.

We should stop being amazed and force those responsible to act. Now!

Until then, I wish Donald Trump an excellent treatment for his $750 taxes at the expense of the taxpayers – I hope he does not need to resort to the „medicine“ he recommended himself.
